Software Updates

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

If you're having a problem with one of our titles, please look through the Handbook and Release Notes first, where we try to cover known issues and often provide a 'Trouble-shooting' section. If you don't have the printed Handbook/Manual, please note that each title installs it as a PDF along with the software, so you should find it in your Windows 'Start' menu. If not you could re-install the software (to a different folder if you just want the PDFs) or mail us for them; so long as we can find you on our database we'll send it with pleasure.

If the Handbook etc. doesn't help, please check the Support section of this site, where we provide up-to-date information, solutions/workarounds and preferred downloads. The downloads below are historical and are kept here mainly for our reference, so unless you're a computer afficionado and you know the version number of the software you have (usually on the CD and/or on the title screen) it's best to get downloads from the Support page.

If you'd rather not mess around with downloads we'll be happy to send you the latest CD, so long as we know you own the pack. Please mail us for a price (usually a handling charge of Ł15 ex VAT or the difference in price between the licence you have and the one you want.

If your software is running fine and you have the Handbooks on your machine then it's probably best to stick with what you have!

DoIT Literacy Pack	All Compilation CD releases	290 Kb	Fixes a problem in WordIT: When using synthesised speech it is impossible to pop all the balloons at the end of the activity.
Jigsaw Maker	All CD releases	266 Kb	This patch tweaks the clip art in Jigsaw Maker. BOY2 and GIRL2 clipart have gaps in their hands. This causes flood fill to fill the whole screen. This patch closes the gaps.
MusicBox 2	Compilation CD volumes 3 - 5	736 Kb	Fixes problems on some Windows NT and 2000 machines: MusicBox can cause an error when right clicking on an instrument to change the selection on some networks. Tweaked MusicBox to load faster over a network. MusicBox would refuse to believe DirectX had been installed. Network read-only registries would pop up 'Can't write registry entry .tb2' for example.
MathMania 2 (ages 7-11)	CD releases before March 07	3.3 Mb	This upgrade adds speech to MathMania 2. Do not use on MathMania 3 When clicked on all questions and puzzle instructions will be spoken.
MathMania 2 (ages 7-11)	CD v1.00	847 Kb	This patch tweaks multiplayer mode in MathMania 2. Do not use on MathMania 3! Resolves a communication problem on some networks during a multiplayer game. MathMania links to the server but no players appear during the game.
MathMania 3 (ages 11-14)	CD releases before March 07	3.3 Mb	This upgrade adds speech to MathMania 3. Do not use on MathMania 2 When clicked on all questions and puzzle instructions will be spoken.
MathMania 3 (ages 11-14)	Version 1.00 releases	784 Kb	This patch tweaks MathMania 3. Do not use on MathMania 2! When using 'adjust difficulty level automatically', MathMania may try to use levels higher than 3.
Money Talks!	Compilation CD volumes 4 - 5	37 Kb	Fixes a problem on all versions of Windows: The letter 'E' was displayed instead of the proper Euro symbol "Punts" is now spoken correctly Early versions of Windows 95 will also need this file to make their machine Euro symbol compatible.
RM Connect installation	All releases	1.9 Mb	This PDF file may help people install our software on an RM Connect network. These notes were originally written for MathsBook but they're valid for all our software. Where floppy disc is mentioned you should refer to the installation CD instead.
Sherlock 2	Compilation CD volumes 1 - 5	186 Kb	Fixes a problem on all versions of Windows: Setting a save folder using PATHS.DEF prevented files being saved anywhere other than that folder. Navigating to a different folder using the Save box had no effect.
ScreenTurtle 2	All CD releases	254 Kb	Fixes problems on some Windows machines: Runtime error 52 using the Unrestricted version (The restricted version is unaffected by this issue).
Scally's World: Letters & Nouns	Version 1.0	847 Kb	This patch tweaks the letter groups function. Using letter names with the letter 'c' didn't disable the selection of 'ch' words.
Scally's World of Verbs	All CD releases	584 Kb	Fixes a problem when switching to DirectX full screen mode: Access Violation when Scally's World of Verbs first starts Now automatically tries other methods of full screen switching so you don't have to
ScienceMania KS2	CD release v1.0	265 Kb	Fixes a problem with punctuation: 3 topic questions started with a lower case letter.
Talking Clocks	Compilation CD volumes 1 - 2	212 Kb	Fixes a problem on all versions of Windows. Do NOT use this patch on Talking Clocks PLUS! With the these options set: Use Analogue Clock Afternoon Only Any Time 'Say the Time' occasionally marked a question wrong when the answer was in fact correct. After marking it wrong you were told the time was '10 minutes to 17' or something equally as strange! 'Path not found' error reported when using 'How Much Time' over some networks. Using 'Any Time' and 'Match the Clocks' occasionally drew an extra-long minute hand and then gave 'Bad record number'.
Talking Clocks PLUS	Single Title CD	574 Kb	Fixes a problem on all versions of Windows. Do NOT use this patch on Talking Clocks! Resetting the presets occasionally fails.
Talking Clocks PLUS (With Smartboards)	Single Title CD	195 Kb	Fixes a problem in 'How Much Time': When using a SmartBoard, clicking on the green arrows makes the clock jump forward 2 divisions. Only download this patch if you are using a SmartBoard.
WordMania 2 (ages 7-11)	CD releases before March 07	3.3 Mb	This upgrade adds speech to WordMania 2. Do not use on WordMania 3! When clicked on all questions and puzzle instructions will be spoken.
WordMania 2 (ages 7-11)	CD releases below 1.02	783 Kb	This patch tweaks WordMania 2. Do not use on WordMania 3! The maze character is now easier to navigate around the maze, this prevents getting into a tight spot by doors for example. Slight re-wording of a few questions to make them clearer. Occasionally in the spelling section, the computer generated anagrams threw up an unscrambled word as the correct answer.
