Licences come in various 'sizes' according to the number of machines you wish to simultaneously run the software on. A 5-user licence would enable you to run it on up to 5 machines, while Primary and Secondary Site Licences allow simultaneous use on unlimited machines. Home Editions, Single User and Approval packs need the CD to be placed in the drive each time you run the software, despite the fact that the software is installed on your hard drive.
If your licence doesn't cover enough machines or you want the software to run without the CD, it's easy to upgrade, and you only pay the difference between the price of your current licence and the new one! To upgrade your Windows licence:
